Bugging God (So I did me some talking to the Sun, and I said I didn’t like way he got things done, sleeping on the job)

Psalm 85:1-4
“Lord, you were favorable to your land; you restored the fortunes of Jacob, You forgave the iniquity of your people; your pardoned all their sin. You withdrew all your wrath; you turned from your hot anger. Restore us again, O God of our salvation, and put away your indignation toward us.”
Okay, first question, if God is all knowing, all powerful, and all loving, then why does the Psalmist seem to remind God of the past as if God is forgetful? To make my point, let me take the above verses and paraphrase it into a relational context of a child and his grandpa…
“Grandpa, you gave me a really great birthday present last year, we went sailing! However, you tend to get grumpy, but last year you got over it and we had a really great time. Now I want you to get over your anger this year so we can have a really great time again this year. So get over it grandpa and let us go sailing!”
Most of us are not used to to talking to God as the Psalmist does, but it is my contention that unless we move our “God Language” beyond vague generalities then our relationship with God never becomes ”real.”
When was the last time you got REAL with God? Your family? Your Friends? Your Neighbors? Your Enemies?
To the Psalmist, God is the most real relationship she has, is it not time for you to be real?
Peace,
Pastor John
